Anita Bergeson, Assistant Professor (English)

Professor Anita Bergeson teaches Composition and early British literature. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, where she completed her dissertation on ideas of reading in Chaucer’s major works exclusive of the Canterbury Tales. She continues to focus on medieval literature, but her literary interests are many: William Blake, Samuel Richardson, Beowulf, James Joyce, Frances Burney, and Gwendolyn Brooks hang out together on her bookshelves. Outside of the classroom, Professor Bergeson enjoys being an eclectic music fan who’s always looking for more to add to her playlist. When not reading or catching some new tunes, she can also be found hiking and exploring the many natural wonders that await just outside our doorsteps
Matt Dube, Assistant Professor (English)

Professor Matt Dube teaches creative writing, composition, and some literature classes. His PhD is Creative Writing and American Literature is from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, where he sub-specialized in Zydeco dance and Cajun food. He lived for a year in Ukraine, teaching American lit and writing a novel. He is writing a book about comics and trying to find a publisher for his book of jaw droppingly awesome short stories Self-Destruct. In his spare time, he reads comics, listens to music (quiet and loud), and goes to late night rock shows as often as his teaching schedule allows.
Katricia G. Pierson, Assistant Professor (English)

In addition to being associate dean of academic assessment and director of the university honors program, Dr. Pierson teaches one or two courses a semester in the English program. She specializes in medieval British literature, history of the English language, as well as composition studies. Her favorite class to teach is advanced grammar and syntax. She received her PhD from the University of Arkansas in 2004 and joined the faculty at William Woods that same year.
Greg Smith, Assistant Professor (English)

Professor Greg Smith teaches Film Studies and Composition at William Woods. He holds a Ph.D. in English with specialty areas in Film and American Studies. He attended Wayne State University in Detroit, MI and Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI. As evidenced by his published work on American cinema, American literature, British literature, and even rock music, his interests are wide-ranging and interdisciplinary. Professor Smith sponsors Moviegoers, the WWU student film club, and participates in Viewer's Eye, the Fulton community film discussion group. Outside of work, he enjoys baseball, golf, going to concerts, playing drums in a band, and hanging out with his wife Chris and their three unbelievably obnoxious dogs.
Stephanie Wells, Assistant Professor (Communications and English)

Dr. Stephanie Wells teaches Professional and Technical Writing and Composition at William Woods. She holds a Ph.D. in Communications. She attended Missouri State University and University of Missouri. Professor Wells has a variety of interests including Rhetoric, Public Presentation, Speech Writing, and Writing for Print, as evidenced through her advising of Echoes, the student newspaper. Dr. Wells also advises a sorority on campus, the cheerleaders, and serves as the chair of the Study Abroad committee.
