A special member of our community was honored. Charlotte Rose Hamilton was honored with our American Sign Language & Interpreting lab being officially named the Charlotte Rose Hamilton Interpreting Lab.
Charlotte was born and raised in Fulton, Missouri the daughter of Deaf parents. Her parents taught at the Missouri School for the Deaf for about 34 years. In 1950 she became a registered nurse and after 34 years retired from that profession.
In 1965 Charlotte was one of the first members of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. In 1972 she was RID certified and also became a certified interpreter in Kansas that same year. In 1976 she helped to establish the Midwestern Missouri Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Chapter. In 1990 she was one of the first board members of the American Sign Language/Interpreting Program here at William Woods University.
She has been a full time interpreter for 66 years and a professional interpreter for 37 years. We are much honored to have the lab in memory of her name plate above the door entering the ASL Lab.
