The Stable Complex

  • Four heated barns with a total of 150 box stalls
  • Two heated indoor arenas; 90'x220' and 90'x200'
  • A lighted outdoor ring 150'x250' with all-weather footing
  • A 75' outdoor round pen with all-weather footing
  • 4 turn-out paddocks
  • Two technology-enhanced classrooms.
  • Forty acre cross country course on the north end of campus.
  • 150 show quality school horses
  • A 7-horse trailer and 2 2-horse trailers for transportation to shows
  • 8 tack rooms EQS Tackroom
  • Student lockers
  • Laundry facilities
  • Faculty offices
  • 6 wash stalls with hot and cold water

    There are two EQS classrooms located within the stable complex. Both classrooms are equipped with audio-video equipment. The large classroom is also equipped with a large screen TV, an extensive collection of educational EQS video tapes, DVDs, and a museum quality horse skeleton.

    Library Holdings

    The WWU Library houses an extensive equestrian collection with orver 1,000 books, 24 current periodicals and numerous vintage periodicals, pamphlets and videos. This complements the EQS Division video collection of over 500 tapes and DVDs.

    The depth of the library's holdings include categories such as:

    • art, history, mythology and literature
    • evolution, genetics, breeding and veterinary medicine
    • management, nutrition, health
    • exercise physiology & equine sports medicine
    • behavior, psychology, training
    • teaching methodologies & paradigms
    • horses in sport & equestrian competition
    • equine law

    There is also an extensive collection of out of print titles dealing with the history of the breeds and horsemanship methods.

    The Kathie Rogers Collection

    Donated to WWU in 1996, this collection of over 150 books covered a wide range of equine areas with an emphasis on dressage and combined training. It is a very much appreciated gift that helped to expand our holdings in many areas.

    All of the more than 150 horses used in the program have been donated to the university. Breeds represented include the American Quarter Horse, the American Saddlebred, Appaloosa, Arabian, Morgan, Thoroughbred, Paint and several different American and European Warmblood breeds.All WWU horses are managed and cared for by WWU students.
