Laura Ward

Laura WardLaura H. Ward has been teaching in the Equestrian Studies Division at William Woods since 1991 and served as Division Chair from 1998 to 2006.  The courses that she teaches include Survey of Equine Care, Horse Industry Overview, Equine Anatomy, Movement and Farrier Methods, Equine Nutrition, Longlining and Driving, and Stable Management.  Ward was named the 1994 Beaumont Foundation/Parents’ Association Distinguished Professor, an award that is given each year to a member of the William Woods faculty in recognition of their excellence in teaching.  She also manages the William Woods Summer Riding Program.  Before joining the equestrian faculty at William Woods, Ward received her Master of Science at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in Agricultural Education with an emphasis in Animal Science.  In graduate school she was a University of Wisconsin Extension 4-H Youth Agent of Pierce County, a county with an extensive horse project.  Ward received her Bachelors degree from William Woods in Equestrian Science in 1982.  She then worked for Jaklee Farms in Southern Wisconsin where she trained and showed Morgan horses in both halter and performance, and taught Saddle Seat equitation.  Ward is an USEF ‘r’ judge in the divisions of Morgan, Saddlebred and Saddle Seat Equitation.  She also serves on the executive committee for the Missouri Horse Shows Association.
