Anthony Lungstrum

Anthony has been the Director of the Athletic Training Education Program at William Woods University since the fall of 2007.  As the Director, Anthony is responsible for the overall operation of the Athletic Training Education Program, along with Cindy Robb to ensure that all athletic training students receive the best education possible to prepare them for a career as an Athletic Trainer.  Anthony also teaches in the Division of Human Performance, teaching many of the athletic training major’s courses and provides athletic training coverage to the WWU Women’s Softball team.  Prior to arriving at William Woods University Anthony worked at Texas A&M University-Commerce as the Clinical Coordinator of the Athletic Training Education Program, Instructor in the Department of Human Performance and Assistant Athletic Trainer.  Anthony earned both his undergraduate and master’s degrees from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK and is currently working on his doctorate degree from Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Cindy is a full time faculty member in the Division of Human Perfomance teaching most of her classes within the athletic training major. She also enjoys working with the Owls Women's Volleyball team each fall.

Mike McElhinney

This is my second year at William Woods University serving as the Assistant Athletic Trainer and an Approved Clinical Instructor. I will primarily cover Women’s Volleyball, M&W Cross Country, Women’s Basketball, and M&W Track. This Spring I will be an instructor for the Human Performance Department teaching First Aid and CPR. My education background includes an Associate of Arts degree from Kirkwood Community College, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Athletic Training with a minor in Health Promotion from the University of Northern Iowa, and a Master of Science degree in Athletic Training from West Virginia University. My research interests are developing functional rehabilitation programs and the effects of electrical stimulation pre/post practice or competition.

This is my first year at William Woods University. I recently graduated from Missouri Valley and I will be continuing my education at the university. In addition to Athletic Training, I am in the Army and have served in Iraq. In my spare time I enjoy competing In MMA fighting for the Columbia based fight team, Hulett House.

Dr Matt E. Thornburg

Matt E. Thornburg, MD is a Columbia, Missouri native.  He obtained his undergraduate degree from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas and then returned to Columbia, Missouri where he attended medical school at the University of Missouri School of Medicine.  During his final year of medical school, he was a medical extern at Fulton State Hospital in Fulton, Missouri.  Dr. Thornburg completed his residency in Family and Community Medicine at the University of Missouri and during this time he was also a physician in the emergency department at Boone Hospital Center.   He went on to obtain his Master of Science and Public Health at the University of Missouri-Columbia along with his Certificate of Added Qualification in Primary Care Sports Medicine.

Dr. Thornburg joined Columbia Orthopaedic Group in 2004 and specializes in sports medicine and non-operative Orthopaedic care.  He is an assistant team physician for the University of Missouri athletic department.  He is also a Team Physician for William Woods University, Westminster College, Central Methodist University, and Columbia College.  In his clinical practice, Dr. Thornburg is beginning to use diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound, as well as using Plasma Rich Protein (a portion of the patient’s own blood) to help in healing chronic tendon conditions.   

Dr. Thornburg is a member of several professional organizations including the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine, American Academy of Family physicians, and American Medical Association.  Working directly with Dr. Thornburg on his team are his nurse, Katie Powderly and his administrative assistant, Julee West. 

Dr. Thornburg and his wife have three children.  In his free time he enjoys golf, running, and spending time with his family.

Jill Gamlin

Jill received her degree in athletic training in 1991 from Truman State University and her degree in physical therapy from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1993.  She has worked in Fulton since 1993 as a physical therapist and as the Athletic Trainer for Fulton Public Schools.  In addition, Jill has enhanced her credentials by earning her certification as an ergonomic assessment specialist from the Back School of Atlanta in 2003.
