Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is your student/teacher ratio?
A: Approximately 14:1, but you probably want to know how big classes will be. Typically you have some larger lecture classes (e.g. Critical Thinking) in which there may be around 40-60 students. 

Q: How do I apply?
A: Complete an application (online ), send an official high school transcript, and SAT or ACT scores. Transfer students also need to send college transcripts from each institution attended. Letters of recommendation and interviews are not required. There is a non-refundable $25 application processing fee if you mail in an application. However the application processing fee is waived if you apply online or if you visit campus.

student awardQ: Is there an application deadline?
A: No. Although we have a preferred deadline of December 1, WWU offers a “rolling admissions” policy. This means students can apply and be accepted at anytime although we prefer that students have all necessary paperwork in at least one week prior to the start of classes. 

Q: Are Academic Scholarships available?
A: Yes. There are numerous scholarships available including automatic awards and competitive awards. If a student is applying for a particular award the deadline is March 1. The student must be applied to the university in order to be considered for a competitive scholarship. Follow this link to the Scholarship Opportunities page for more information.

Q: What kind of health care is available?
A: WWU does have a Health Services Facility. For more information, click here .

Q: What kinds of organizational activities does WWU have?
A: There are over 30 different organizations including: student government, academic honoraries, leadership honoraries, community service groups, cultural organizations, religious organizations, greek life, political action groups, environmental groups, interest clubs, activity groups, and intramural sports.

Q: Can I get an athletic scholarship?
A: Athletic scholarships are controlled by the respective coach. You, or someone who knows your ability, should contact our coach and let him/her know of your interest. For more information click here .

Q: Are you required to live on campus?
A: Yes. Unless you are at least 23 years old, are married or have dependents, or are going to commute from a parent’s home (which must be within 60 mile radius.)

Q: Can I bring a car?
A: There is no restriction on students bringing cars, however the student must pay for a parking decal that must be displayed in the vehicle at all times. Students may purchase the tag at the Cashier’s Window.

Q: Is it safe?ducks crossing
A: William Woods is committed to protecting each student on campus the campus safety statistics are available online and students are more than welcome to contact Campus Security with any questions or concerns. Using common sense and normal precautions should assure your safety.

Q: When should I apply?
A: For freshmen, sometime between September and December of your senior year is preferred. William Woods has a rolling admissions policy which means that students may be accepted after the preferred December 1 deadline.

Q: How long does it take to find out an admissions decision?
A: Usually three to four business days after all documents are submitted.

Q: What are your freshman requirements?
A: Generally speaking, Freshman applicants with a 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, at least an 19 on the ACT or 890 on the SAT and who graduate in the top 50% of their class will be accepted to the University. Transfer students are required to have at least 12 college credit hours from an accredited school and have at least a 2.5 grade point average. See the Admission Requirements page for more information 

Q: How much will it cost?
A: For tuition and fees approximately $15,650 for in or out-of-state students, Room, $3,150 and Board is $3,250. (Estimates based on undergraduate fees for the 2007 - 2008 year). There are additional lab fees associated with the EQS riding classes which is $925 per riding class.  There are also additional fees to live in Cutlip Hall or the Stone Campbell Apartments.

Q: Are students required to purchase a meal plan?students eating outside
A: Yes. Students living on campus must purchase a meal plan. Commuter students are also allowed to purchase a meal plan if they wish to do so.

Q: What types of financial aid are available?
A: The traditional types of scholarships are listed on the Scholarship Opportunities page. Financial aid include grants, loans, and work study and is only offered if the student completes the Free Application for Federal Student Aid(FAFSA).

Q: How do I apply for financial aid?
A: The form required is a national form, offered by the Federal Government, it is called the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Please contact Financial Aid for more information.

Q: When do I apply for financial aid?
A: The earliest is January 1 and you should do so as soon as possible thereafter.

Q: What is your FAFSA/Title IV code?
A: The FAFSA/Title IV code for WWU is 002525.

Fiji Diaper DriveQ: Does WWU have national sororities or fraternities on campus?
A: Yes. It is the same cost to live in an independent residence hall as it is to live in a sorority or fraternity house. The only additional costs may be monthly dues and initiation fees. There are four sororities and two fraternities. Sororities: Alpha Chi Omega , Delta Gamma, Alpha Phi and Chi Omega; Fraternities: Phi Gamma Delta “Fiji” and Pi Kappa Alpha “Pikes”

Q: Can I get a private dormitory room?
A: It is very unlikely that private rooms will be available. The last few years, WWU has had a record number of incoming students so space is very limited. If there is a chance that a private room is available the cost is $350 extra per semester. Remember that one part of the college experience is learning to co-exist with others. The Housing Form can be filled out and sent to the Residential Life office in order to better match you with a roommate.

Q: Are there opportunities to participate in Study Abroad? 
A:Yes. Students have the option of working with five different companies in order to do the Study Abroad programs. In the past, WWU has had students in Italy, Australia, Ireland, England and many other countries.

Q: Is there a job placement service or career service?
