Responsibility is something for which one is responsible; a duty or obligation. At William Woods University responsibility is the backbone of the student-athlete infrastructure. Responsibility is an obligation to something that you must do, be it practice, homework or attending the next LEAD event. Yet, responsibility also covers that which you do not do, what people do not see you do. Responsibility here can be broken down into three categories, academics, athletics, and student life.
As student-athletes at William Woods University, we are responsible for far more than just our sport. As the name implies we are students before athletes. Therefore we must be responsible and stay on track with our academic studies. Study halls and grade checks are only a few examples that we must complete in order to stay on top of our homework. Being responsible means taking extra time to finish papers, expand on your notes and prepare for the next class period. This is essential to any success here at William Woods University. Academics are of the utmost importance and therefore are top priority at this institution.

The second part of our responsibilities is in our athletics. We must hustle everywhere we go and give our coaches one thousand percent all the time. Being responsible means checking in with teammates to see if they are also being responsible. By encouraging one another and utilizing teamwork, a team personality can be formed; each member watching out for the other and striving to succeed for the athlete next to you. Also in our athletics we must be responsible for our bodies. Staying clean and healthy is vital to our success as athletes.
The final part of our responsibility here is our student-life. We represent not only ourselves but our individual sport and the overall athletics here at William Woods University. Therefore we must always act appropriate when we are seen in the public eye. The LEAD scholarship in addition, requires our attention and we must be responsible in obtaining our goals for the scholarship. Overall we must be responsible in the classroom, on the field, and around campus. Not only do we reflect ourselves through our work ethic, but we also represent William Woods University and our athletic sport.
