Craig Moffett - Respect
Craig Moffett

What is respect? Respect is a difficult word to define; it maybe interpreted differently by various groups, races, and cultures. There are certain qualities that are encompassed by the term respect which include: integrity, trust, and moral values. First, an individual must respect themselves and promote a lifestyle which embraces these qualities. Furthermore, respect should then be shown to those we come in contact with throughout our lives. If we look at the sporting culture as a whole, it is easy to see a lack of respect displayed by many high profile athletes in professional sports. Competition can motivate people to perform outstanding physical feats while at the same time bringing out disrespect toward opponents, teammates, and coaches.

When competing against other teams and individuals it is crucial to respect them no matter the situation at hand. Whether it is a

conference championship game or a regular season opponent; respecting their abilities to compete is paramount when entering the game. Every game is an opportunity to compete at a high level and this needs to start with respect of the opponent and the game itself. Respect your opponent before during the game by playing a hard fought, clean game.

Teammates and coaches can become like family members because of the extensive time that is spent together during a season. In order to have success, each individual must respect the position and abilities of one another. Players must respect the coach’s decisions and choices because of his position as the leader of the team. Along with that a mutual respect must exist among player regardless of any issues they may have. This respect will then carry over into each individual’s actions both in and out the sporting arena. Respect is the corner stone of a successful player, team, and program. Baseball Huddle
