I have always tried to show integrity in my actions and behavior, and it keeps me focused on my goals and how I can achieve them. An athlete of character won’t ever look for a loop hole or an easy way out. They will always try their best to earn success physically and mentally, no matter how hard they have to work.
My collegiate team and I haven’t been together long enough to honestly judge one
another, but in that short time we’ve been together, I know that we all have integrity. Integrity isn’t just about being honest. It’s about keeping your word when it is given, it’s about having appropriate behavior, and it’s about having pride and honor. A player or a team cannot have pride without honor. Honor is another word used to describe a person’s strong moral character and strength, and adherence to ethical principles.

Athletes need not only to be strong on the court but also in all other aspects of their lives. An athlete of character does not confuse pride for overconfidence. They know their limits and accept them in the hopes of becoming better on and off the court.
| Through the years, I’ve met many athletes and played for many coaches, and I have respect for their accomplishments and for what they can teach me. A good coach and team leader will help guide you through life and help you achieve your dreams, whether in the classroom, on the court, or at home. They’re there when you need them and they’re always willing to help.
A team cannot even hope of winning without integrity. Being honest with yourself and your teammates builds a bond that no one can ever break. The ultimate trust between teammates is something that in many cases only athletes comprehend. This trust between friends leads teams to greatness. A team doesn’t have to win to be great. If they give it their best, every day, they can achieve success regardless of how their season ends. |
