Alicia GreenAlicia Green Signs with Owls (FULTON, Mo., June 11)--Head Volleyball Coach Jennifer Mueller has announced the signing of Alicia Green to a William Woods University Letter of Intent to play for the Owls in 2008. Green comes to William Woods from Midlothian High School in Midlothian, Texas.

Green, a 6'0" middle blocker, was named second team All-District in 2006, and first team All-District in 2007.

“Alicia is a strong middle with a lot of potential," said Coach Mueller. "She is a smart player that has a good shot selection. We will look for her to be a dominating force at the net.”

Lauren Fleming Lauren Fleming Signs with Owls

(FULTON, Mo., May 23)--Head Volleyball Coach Jennifer Mueller has announced the signing of Lauren Fleming to a William Woods University Letter of Intent to play for the Owls in 2008. Fleming comes to William Woods from Grandbury High School in Grandbury, Texas.

Fleming, a 5'11" middle blocker, was a four-year letter winner in Volleyball at Grandbury HS. In 2007, she was selected 1st team All-District, team Captain, team MVP, and Academic All-State. She ranked in the top 20 in kills in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. She averaged 3.53 kills a game, and led her team with 56 blocks.

Her junior season, Fleming was named 1st team All-District, and team offensive player of the year. Fleming was named 2nd team All-District her freshman and sophomore year.

Amanda RobertsonAmanda Robertson Signs With Owls

(FULTON, Mo., May 14)--Head Volleyball Coach Jennifer Mueller has announced the signing of Amanda Robertson to a William Woods University Letter of Intent to play for the Owls in 2008. Robertson comes to William Woods from Missouri State University-West Plains Community College. She is a graduate of Willard High School in Willard, Missouri.

Robertson, a 5'10" outside hitter, was a member of the West Plains team that finished the 2007 season as the 14th ranked team in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

At Willard High School, Robertson was a two-time All-Conference and All-District selection. She was named Honorable Mention All-State in 2006. Willard finished second at the Missouri State Volleyball Championships in 2006.

Owls Add Two Recruits
(FULTON, Mo., May 13)--
Head Volleyball Coach Jennifer Mueller has announced the signing of Kayla Fraguela and Cali Simmons to a William Woods University Letter of Intent to play for the Owls in 2008. Fraguela comes to William Woods from East Central College in Union, Missouri. Fraguela is a graduate of Miami Coral Park Senior High School in Dade County, Florida. Simmons comes to William Woods from Neosho County Community College. She is a graduate of Shawnee Mission North High School in Shawnee, Kansas.

Fraguela, a 5'10" right side hitter, was an Honorable Mention All-District selection in 2003. She was also a member of the 3rd Team All-Dade County in 2004. In 2004 and 2005 she was named her high schools Best Offensive Player. In 2005, Fraguela was selected 2nd Team All-Dade County. Miami Coral Park won the District Championship in 2003 and 2004.

Simmons, a 5'8" outside hitter, was a member of the 2002 Kansas 6A State Championship volleyball team. She earned Honorable Mention All-Sunflower League in 2005. While at Neosho County Community College, Simmons was named 2nd Team All-District and 2nd Team All-Jayhawk Conference in 2007. Her Neosho County team was ranked as high as 8th in the nation in 2006, and finished second in the District Championships in 2006 and 2007. Neosho County was also ranked 5th in the National Junior College Athletic Associate in Academic All-Americans in 2007.

Lacey OlinLacey Olin Signs With William Woods

(FULTON, Mo., April 8)--Head Volleyball Coach Jennifer Mueller has announced the signing of Lacey Olin to a William Woods University Letter of Intent to play for the Owls in 2008. Olin comes to William Woods from Pratt Community College in Pratt, Kansas.

Olin, a 5’8” outside hitter from Pueblo, Colorado, was named to the First Team All-Region and Honorable Mention All-Jayhawk Conference. Olin finished the season ranked #25 in the nation in kills/game with 3.87. Olin put away 457 kills in 1256 attempts. She was also second on the team in digs/game with 2.69 and third on the team in aces with 43. She led the team in serve reception percentage at .965.

“Lacey certainly deserved this recognition,” said Pratt Community College Head Coach Patrick Hall. “She’s a true all-around player. Not only was she our go-to player at the net, but she was a stalwart for us defensively. She earned her hitting numbers the hard way, being targeted as the player that was going to get set most often. She also displayed a remarkable talent to push through difficult stretches and finish matches for us. Lacey is a model player for future outsides in our program.”

“Lacey has a tremendous jump and a powerful arm swing,” said William Woods Head Coach Jennifer Mueller.  “She comes from a solid program at Pratt Community College where she was the ‘go-to’ hitter and a competitive player. Her offensive and defensive skills will be a great addition to the Woods volleyball program.”

Cierra Bond Signs With William Woods

Cierra Bond(FULTON, Mo., Mar. 14)--Head Volleyball Coach Jennifer Mueller has announced the signing of Cierra Bond to a William Woods University Letter of Intent to play for the Owls in 2008. Bond comes to William Woods from Russellville High School in Russellville, Missouri.

Bond, a 5'7" outside hitter, earned three varsity volleyball letters at Russellville High School. Bond was selected team MVP in 2006. She was selected 1st team All-Conference, and honorable mention All-District in 2007.

Cierra was a four-sport athlete at Russellville. She earned varsity letters in volleyball, basketball, track and softball. Bond plans on majoring in Athletic Training at William Woods.

Jennifer Mueller Hired as Volleyball Coach

Coach Mueller(FULTON, Mo., Jan. 17)--William Woods University has announced the hiring of Jennifer Mueller as Head Women’s Volleyball Coach.  Mueller replaces Adam Longmore who resigned his position in November.

Mueller comes to William Woods from Lafayette County High School in Higginsville, Missouri.  Mueller spent one year as an assistant varsity volleyball coach for Lafayette County.

Prior to Lafayette County, she spent one season as an assistant volleyball coach at NCAA Division II University of Central Missouri.  That year, UCM finished with a record of 26-10.  The Jennies finished third in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAA) and advanced to the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament.

Coach Mueller will also bring head coaching experience to William Woods.  Before her stint as an assistant at the University of Central Missouri, Mueller spent three years as the head volleyball coach at Coffeyville Community College in Coffeyville, Kansas.  Her final year at Coffeyville, Coach Mueller led her squad to a fourth place finish in the talent-rich Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.

“Coach Mueller’s arrival will signal a new beginning for the William Woods University women’s volleyball program,” said Larry York, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at William Woods. “Her knowledge of the game and her desire to field a fundamentally sound and disciplined team will help to insure the success that is sure to develop as she implements her program. One of Coach Mueller’s strengths is her interest in educating the total person. There is little doubt that a balance between academics and athletics will be maintained.”

Anderson Recognized by NAIA (Nov. 30)

(FULTON, Mo., Nov. 30)--Senior Sarah Anderson has been named a 2007 Volleyball-Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete.

Anderson, an outside hitter from Manhattan, Kansas, is a Political Legal Studies major.

Anderson was also selected to the honorable mention All-AMC team and the Academic All-AMC team

Volleyball Earns Post-Season Awards

Several members of the William Woods University volleyball team have been recognized by the American Midwest Conference.

Sarah Anderson, Molly Dougherty and Jessica Deetz have been named to the Honorable Mention All-AMC team.

Anderson, Kristin Smith, Kristina Perry and Skye Wade have been named to the Academic All-AMC team.

Anderson is a senior outside hitter from Manhattan, Kansas.
Dougherty is a freshman setter from Omaha, Nebraska.
Deetz is a freshman middle blocker from Nixa, Missouri.
Smith is a senior middle blocker from San Rafael, California.
Perry is a junior libero from Willard, Missouri.
Wade is a sophomore outside hitter from Licking, Missouri.

Longmore Resigns as Head Coach (Nov. 27)

(FULTON, Mo., Nov. 27)-- Adam Longmore has resigned his position as Head Women’s Volleyball Coach at William Woods University.  Coach Longmore joined the Owls' Athletic Staff in August of 2003, becoming an assistant coach for the William Woods Men's and Women's Volleyball programs. Adam took over as the Head Women’s coach during the 2004 season.

A search for his replacement will begin immediately.

Volleyball Season Ends in AMC Tournament (Nov. 6)

(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 6)--The William Woods University volleyball team lost in the opening round of the American Midwest Conference post-season volleyball tournament.  The Owls lost at McKendree University 30-21, 30-19, and 30-27.

Sarah Anderson recorded nine kills in the loss.  Anderson also recorded 19 digs for the Owls.

William Woods finishes the 2007 season with a final record of 8-20.

Owls Win on Senior Night (Nov. 2)

(FULTON, Mo., Nov. 2)--The William Woods University volleyball team picked up an American Midwest Conference win on Friday, November 2nd.  The Owls defeated the Spartans of Williams Baptist College 3-2 on senior night.  William Woods won 30-27, 28-30, 34-32, 19-30, and 15-9.

Senior Sarah Anderson recorded a match-high 26 kills and a team-high 28 digs.  Molly Dougherty tallied a match-high 71 assists in the win.

William Woods improves to 8-19 overall and 4-10 in the American Midwest Conference.

The Owls will return to action next week in the AMC post-season tournament.

Dougherty Earns Conference and Region Award (Oct. 24)

(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 23)--Two members of the Missouri Baptist University volleyball team join one from William Woods University in earning American Midwest Conference volleyball recognition for Oct. 22.

Brittany Lukasek of Missouri Baptist was honored as AMC Player of the Week, while Molly Dougherty was tabbed as the AMC Setter of the Week. Tracey Abell rounded out the list as she was named the AMC Libero of the Week.

Dougherty, a senior from Omaha, Neb., handed out 192 assists in four matches for the Owls. She reached the 50-assist mark in three of the four matches, including a high of 58 against Hannibal-LaGrange College. Dougherty also posted 42 digs, 10 service aces, six kills and four total blocks as William Woods went 2-2 last week.

In addition to her AMC award, Dougherty was also named the NAIA Region V Volleyball Setter of the Week.

Owls Bounce Back With Two Wins (Oct. 20)

(MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa, Oct. 20)--The William Woods University volleyball team picked up two victories on Saturday in Mount Pleasant, Iowa.  The Owls defeated Iowa Wesleyan College 3-1, and Missouri Valley College 3-0 to improve to 7-13 on the season.

In the first match of the day, the Owls defeated Iowa Wesleyan 30-26, 30-25, 22-30, and 30-25.  Tinisha Donegan recorded a match-high 24 kills for the Owls in the win.  Sarah Anderson added 35 digs for William Woods.  Molly Dougherty paced the Owls with a match-high 54 assists.

In the second match of the day, the Owls defeated Missouri Valley 30-14, 32-30, and 30-26.  Jessica Deetz led the Owls with 12 kills.  Emily Edens and Kristin Smith added 11 kills apiece in the win.  Dougherty concluded the day with another impressive effort in the second match; recording 50 assists.  Anderson led the Owls with 23 digs.

William Woods will return to action on Tuesday, October 23rd, at American Midwest Conference opponent the University of Illinois-Springfield.

Woods Falls in Five-Set Heartbreaker (Oct. 19)

(HANNIBAL, Mo., Oct. 19)--The William Woods University volleyball team dropped a five-set heartbreaker at Hannibal-LaGrange College on Saturday night.  William Woods lost 25-30, 32-30, 28-30, 30-24, and 16-18.

Molly Dougherty recorded 58 assists for the Owls.  Sarah Anderson had a match-high 21 kills in the loss.  She also recorded a match-high 36 digs for the Owls.

Seau-Gibso Shannalei notched 29 assists for Hannibal-LaGrange.  Aruaz had a team-high 13 kills in the win.

Hannibal-LaGrange improves to 5-15 overall, and 2-9 in the American Midwest Conference.  William Woods falls to 5-13 overall, and 3-8 in the AMC.

Owls Lose to #9 Columbia College (Oct. 16)

(FULTON, Mo., Oct. 16)--The William Woods University women’s volleyball team fell to #9 Columbia College 3-1 in the Helen Stephens Sports Complex on Tuesday evening.  The Cougars won 30-27, 31-29, 28-30, and 30-23.

Daniela Brazolino had 11 kills for the Cougars.  Jessica Williams added 20 digs in the win.  Kari McWilliams recorded a game-high 30 assists for CC.

Sarah Anderson led the Owls with seven kills.  Kristina Perry added 28 digs in the loss.  Molly Dougherty recorded a team-high 22 assists.

Columbia improves to 17-6 on the season.  They are also 11-0 in the American Midwest Conference.  William Woods falls to 5-12 on the year, and 3-7 in the AMC.

William Woods will return to action on Friday, October 19th at Hannibal-LaGrange College.

William Woods Drops AMC Contest to Missouri Baptist (Oct. 9)

(FULTON, Mo., Oct. 9)--The William Woods University women’s volleyball team fell to American Midwest Conference opponent Missouri Baptist University on Tuesday evening.  Missouri Baptist won 30-22, 30-23, and 30-23.

Freshman Brianna Rodriguez had eight kills for the Owls.  Sophomore Skye Wade added 25 digs and freshman Molly Dougherty accounted for 17 assists in the loss.

Missouri Baptist improves to 13-8 overall, and 6-1 in the AMC.  William Woods drops to 5-11 overall, and 3-6 in the AMC.  The Owls will return to action on Tuesday, October 16th.  They will host Columbia College at 7:00 PM.

Perry Earns AMC Honor (Oct. 9)

(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 8)--Two familiar faces join a newcomer for the American Midwest Conference weekly volleyball award winners released for Oct. 8.

For the second consecutive week (and third time overall), Yi Zhang-Li of Columbia College has been selected as the AMC Player of the Week, while Columbia's Luana Branco has earned AMC Setter of the Week honors for the fourth time in 2007. The duo is joined by Kristina Perry of William Woods University, who has been chosen as the AMC Libero of the Week.

Perry, a junior libero from Willard, Mo., posted 31 digs in two matches for the Owls. She also handled 41 pass attempts and collected one service ace as William Woods went 1-1 on the week. Perry had 20 digs in the Owls' AMC win last week against Hannibal-LaGrange College.

William Woods Defeats Hannibal-LaGrange (Oct. 5)

(FULTON, Mo., Oct. 5)--The William Woods University Volleyball team improved to 5-10 overall and 3-5 in the American Midwest Conference with a 3-1 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange College on Friday evening.

Jessica Deetz had 12 kills in the win for William Woods.  Kristin Smith and Skye Wade each added 11 kills respectively.  Molly Dougherty recorded a team high 47 assists for the Owls.

Hannibal-LaGrange College falls to 4-15 overall and 0-5 in the AMC.

William Woods will return to action on Tuesday, October 9th.  They will host AMC rival Missouri Baptist College at 7:00 PM.

Owls Fall to Prairie Stars (Oct. 2)

(FULTON, Mo., Oct. 2)--  The William Woods University women’s volleyball team lost a home American Midwest Conference match to the University of Illinois-Springfield on Tuesday evening.  The Owls lost 21-30, 30-26, 20-30, and 19-30 and drop to 4-10 overall and 2-5 in the AMC.

Jessica Deetz led the owls with nine kills in the loss.  Katy Haulotte recorded 17 assists and 13 digs for WWU.

Lauren Sanders recorded a game-high 15 kills for UIS.  Tori McColez had 35 assists in the win for the Prairie Stars who improved to 9-10 overall and 4-2 in the AMC.

William Woods will return to action on Friday, October 5th, at home, versus AMC opponent Hannibal-LaGrange College.  Match time is 7:00 PM.

William Woods Drops AMC Match at McKendree (Sept. 28)

LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 28 – The William Woods University women’s volleyball team dropped an American Midwest Conference match at McKendree University on Friday evening in Lebanon, Illinois.  The Owls lost in three games 30-24, 30-21, 30-18.

William Woods (4-9 and 2-4 in the AMC) was led by Sarah Anderson with 10 kills.  Katie Haulotte and Molly Dougherty recorded 17 and 15 saves respectively.  Skye Wade led the Owls with 21 digs.

McKendree University (14-2 and 5-1 in the AMC) was led by Katelyn Kombrink with 14 kills.

William Woods will return to action on Tuesday, October 2nd, at home, versus the University of Illinois-Springfield.

Volleyball 1-1 in Arkansas (Sept. 21)

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. Sept. 21 – The William Woods University women’s volleyball split two matches in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas on Friday evening.

In the opening match, the Owls faced the Williams Baptist Lady Eagles in an American Midwest Conference match-up.  The Owls lost the first two games (30-16 and 30-21) before rallying to win the next two (35-33 and 30-19).  Williams Baptist took the deciding game five 16-14 to stop the William Woods comeback.

Jessica Deetz led WWU with 16 kills.  Kristin Smith added 15 kills in the loss.  Lindsay Giampietri and Sarah Anderson contributed 26 and 25 digs respectively for the Owls.

After a hard fought loss in the opener, the Owls finished the evening with victory over Bethel College (Tennessee) in a non-conference match.  The Owls took three straight games (30-23, 30-28, and 30-26) to pick up the win.

Jessica Deetz and Tinisha Donegan led the Owls in kills with 11 and 10 respectively.  Lindsay Giampietri had 21 digs and Molly Dougherty added 32 assists in the win.

WWU is now 4-8 on the season and 2-3 in the AMC.  They will return to action on Friday, September 28th, at McKendree University.

Volleyball falls to #12 Columbia College (Sept. 19)

COLUMBIA, Mo., Sept. 18 – The William Woods University women’s volleyball team fell at American Midwest Conference rival Columbia College in straight games Tuesday evening in Columbia.  Columbia College, ranked 12th in the NAIA, defeated the Owls 30-21, 30-20, and 30-20.

Emily Edens led the Owls with eight kills in the defeat.  Amber Chambers tallied seven assists and Sarah Anderson had a team-high 16 digs for William Woods.

The Owls are now 3-7 on the season, and 2-2 in AMC play.  They will return to action on Friday, September 21st, against Williams Baptist College and Bethel College (TN) in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas.

Owls Sweep Hornets (Sept. 11)

The William Woods University Owls Volleyball team hosted the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets in a rare American Midwest Conference volleyball doubleheader.  It also served as the AMC opener for both teams.

The Owls took game one of match one 30-25.  A spike by freshman Brianna Rodriguez (Camdenton, Missouri) finished off a long rally to give William Woods its largest lead of the game to that point (four points) and increased the score to 27-23.  The Owls and Hornets would finish game one point for point, giving WWU the victory.

The Owls had little trouble dispensing with the Hornets winning game two 30-16 and game three 30-17 to win their AMC opener.

In match one, sophomore Emily Edens (Ozark, Missouri) led the Owls with 10 kills and junior Kristina Perry (Willard, Missouri) led the Owls with 22 digs.

Senior Sarah Anderson (Manhattan, Kansas) brought game one of match two to an end with a serving ace to give the Owls a 30-21 victory.  After trailing throughout game two, Anderson’s serving gave the Owls a 22-20 lead.  Freshman Amber Chambers (Licking, Missouri) extended the lead to 25-22 with a cross-court kill.  Harris-Stowe rallied to tie the game at 27, and again at 29.  Anderson took it to game point and then finished off the Hornets with back-to-back kills to earn a hard fought 31-29 victory.

The Owls completed an impressive six game sweep with a 30-6 win.  Katy Haulotte led the Owls with 17 assists and Lindsay Giampietri recorded 18 digs in the win.

William Woods improves to 3-5 overall and 2-0 in the AMC.  Harris-Stowe falls to 2-9 overall and 0-2 in the AMC.  WWU will return to action on September 14th at AMC opponent Missouri Baptist College.

Owls Split in Tri-Match (Sept. 8)

FULTON, Mo. (Sept. 8th) – The William Woods University women’s volleyball team hosted a tri-match on Saturday, September 8th.  The Owls picked up their first victory of the season with a 3-0 defeat of visiting Westminster College in the first match of the day.  The Owls defeated the Blue Jays 30-20, 30-18, and 30-21.

Senior Sarah Anderson and Sophomore Emily Edens led William Woods with eight kills each.  Anderson also recorded 10 digs in the victory.  Freshman Molly Dougherty recorded 21 assists for the Owls.

Westminster College dropped their second match to Central Methodist University 0-3 to fall to 1-6 on the season.

The Owls took the court against Central Methodist University in the final match of the day.  CMU defeated William Woods 3-0.  The Eagles won 30-24, 30-21, and 30-27.

The Eagles would win the opener 30-24 in a highly contested game.  Tied at 21, Central Methodist took a 23-21 lead.  Central would win four of the next six points to improve their lead to 28-23.  WWU cut the lead to four on a kill by Emily Edens, but could not get any closer.

Central jumped out to a 14-1 lead behind the serving of Sophomore Violah Rotich in game two.  The Owls were able to close the gap to eight points (26-18) before falling to CMU 30-21.

Woods jumped out to an early lead in game three, but the Eagles would rally to win the final game 30-27.  After an early timeout, CMU took a 17-11 lead.  Woods cut it to three (22-25) on a Lindsay Giampietri kill, on a Sarah Anderson kill (23-26), and on a Tinisha Donegan block (24-27).  However, Rael Rotich put the final nail in the coffin with a kill to finish the game and the match.

Emily Edens led the WWU Owls with 10 kills, Katy Haulotte paced the Owls with 10 assists, and Tinisha Donegan recorded seven blocks in the loss.

Central Methodist improves to 5-2 on the season.  William Woods falls to 1-5 on the year.  The Owls will return to action on September 11th, at home versus Harris-Stowe State University.  They will host HSSU in a rare American Midwest Conference doubleheader beginning at 5:00 pm in the Helen Stephens Sports Complex.

Owls Fall In California (Sept. 2)

FULTON, Mo. (Aug. 2) – The William Woods University volleyball team dropped four games to open the 2007 season.  The Owls traveled to Irvine, California to compete in the 2007 Crowne-Plaza Labor Day Volleyball Festival.

On Friday, the Owls dropped game one of the tournament to Montana Tech 0-3.  Later that evening, William Woods fell to Carroll College (Montana) 1-3.

On Saturday, the Owls lost to Corban College (Oregon) 1-3, and San Diego Christian College 0-3.

The Owls will return to action on Saturday, August 8th.  William Woods will host Westminster College at 12:00 noon, and Central Methodist University at 4:00 pm.
