The Mildred Cox Gallery at William Woods University plans a full schedule of art exhibits for the academic year 2012-2013, starting with a show featuring Frank Stack and Notley Hawkins.

Running through Sept. 30, the Stack/Hawkins exhibit is titled “From Life” and will showcase Stack’s nudes and landscapes in watercolor, oil, etching and lithography and Hawkins’ photography.  An artists’ reception will be held at 4:30-6 p.m. Aug. 31 in the Gladys Woods Kemper Center for the Arts.

Born in Houston Texas, Stack received his B.F.A. from the University of Texas and his master's degree from the University of Wyoming.  After finishing his post-graduate studies in Chicago, New York and Paris, he began a distinguished 40-year career as a professor of art at the University of Missouri. During that time he developed an international reputation as a painter, print maker and comic artist.

Hawkins was born and raised in Columbia Mo. He studied painting and drawing at Columbia College with Sid Larson, a student of Thomas Hart Benton. He attended the University of Missouri for his master’s degree, where he worked with Stack.

Although Hawkins never took a course in photography, he is firmly entrenched in the photographic arts now. After growing disinterested in painting, he took up photography in 2005 and is now an avid shooter. He takes pictures of all things Missouri including people, places, events and landscapes.
