Declaring a major

You will complete an Intent of Major form during your first WWU registration. It indicates what major you plan on pursing. Indicate you are undecided on this form if you haven't yet decided on a major. You will need to go to the Registrar's Office to make changes to this form if you decide to change your major.

All students must declare a major (and may no longer be Undecided) before they are allowed to register for classes for their junior (having earned more than 59 credit hours) year.

In order to officially declare a major, a student must complete and sign a declaration of major form in the WWU registrar's office.

Only the student may declare or change their major and it must be done in writing. Verbal changes of major and majors conveyed through a third party such as an advisor are not considered valid.

A student's major is declared under the catalog year of the most recent change, not the year the student entered the institution.

If a change is made to the catalog requirements of a major while the student is pursuing a major, and the student decides they would rather follow the newer requirements, that student must fill out a new Intent of Major form.

All majors and minors fall under the same catalog year. This means if a student is perusing a double major and changes one major, the catalog requirements for both majors now fall under the catalog of the most recent change.

Please follow this link Academic Policy to the registrar's office for the university policy on majors, minors, and double majors.
