Academic Service-Learning Goals:
- Develop policy and program recommendations for the University that support academic service-learning and civic engagement.
- Develop an environment of collegial participation among students, faculty, and the community.
- Increase the number of courses utilizing academic service-learning.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Enhance student learning by joining theory with experience and thought with action.
- Present opportunities for students to take greater responsibility for their learning.
- Provide structured opportunities for students to reflect critically on their service experience.
- Better prepare students for their careers/continuing education.
Community Interaction:
- Create lasting partnerships with community agencies/organizations.
- Fill unmet needs in the community through direct and meaningful service.
- Increase student participation in the community.
- Increase William Woods University’s interaction with the community.
Student Civic Engagement:
- Assist students to see the relevance of the academic subject to the “real” world.
- Expose students to social inequality and injustice, while empowering them to make a difference.
- Encourage students to acknowledge and accept themselves as members of both local and worldwide communities.
