The William Woods Greek community is excited you have expressed interest in learning more about us. Joining a Greek chapter promises to enrich your college years by providing academic guidance, leadership opportunities and social experiences. National statistics show Greeks are more likely to stay in school, have higher GPAs, and to be more active on campus.
At William Woods, the Greek community holds true to four values: scholarship, leadership, brotherhood/sisterhood and community service. Scholarship is a key component of our Greek chapters. All chapters have certain grades they must maintain, and have programs in place that help members who might be struggling academically. Traditionally, the all-Greek GPA is higher than the non-Greek GPA.
By going Greek, you have the opportunity to develop your leadership skills. In addition to the leadership roles you can assume in your chapter, many of our on-campus organizations, Student Alumni Council, the pre-law professional fraternity or equestrian groups, all have a strong tradition of Greek leadership. Many of the skills developed by these positions are directly transferable to the job market and will make you a more desirable candidate when it you pursue your career.
Through your fraternity or sorority, you will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of service projects. Each chapter has its own philanthropy (charity) for which they raise money each year through a fun-filled week of skits, sports and friendly competition between chapters. You may participate in water relays or compete in “Fear Factor” for different charities. Each year, the Greek community raises thousands of dollars for philanthropies. They also participate in numerous service projects, such as volunteering at local nursing homes or hosting an American Red Cross Blood Drive to benefit Fulton and the surrounding areas. The desire to help when and where it is needed is something the Greek community will foster in you, and something we hope you continue long after you have graduated.
Scholarship, leadership and community service all come together to forge strong bonds of friendship and of brotherhood/sisterhood among chapter members in the Greek community. Greek life will anchor you within a community of friends you will learn from, laugh with, and enjoy life to the fullest for the next four years!
We are pleased you have taken the time to consider Greek Life at William Woods!
