Greek Recruitment 2008

A message from President Barnett

I am pleased to let you know how much I support Greek life. My husband and I were both members of the Greek system, so I truly do understand the value.

There are many advantages to a healthy Greek system. Sororities and fraternities foster committed, supportive students. Sororities and fraternities add structure to the lives of their members and help them to become stronger members of the university community.

Statistics indicate that Greeks maintain a stronger bond to their university after graduation and that they are more likely to become involved citizens . The community service and leadership roles that they learn in college stay with them their entire lives, and our communities are better places as a result.

At the same time, I do believe that every student should be encouraged to exercise their individual right to join or not, as long as they make the decision based on ‘knowledge, not perception.’

I recommend that ALL students go through recruitment, meet the members, understand their purpose. Then, and only then, are you able to make an educated choice to become Greek or not.  It is important to know that at William Woods University, both choices are possible, and both choices make us a stronger university.

Kind regards,

Dr. Jahnae H. Barnett
