Those who have not yet received two MMR immunizations should receive one or both as soon as possible and forward the proof to Health Services. Exemptions from these requirements may be accepted for medical or religious reasons. These exemptions will be granted only after written evidence is submitted to Health Services in lieu of proof of immunization. Students born prior to 1956 are also exempt from this requirement. Students who do not have proof of adequate immunization may be required to leave campus if a case of mumps or measles is found.
Failure to provide proof of two MMR vaccines may result
your inability to register for classes.

Meningitis Vaccine Information
The American College Health Association, recognizing that there is a mildly increased risk of meningococcal disease/meningitis for college freshmen living in residence halls, recommends that all students entering University receive the meningococcal vaccine. William Woods University does not require this vaccine, but it is strongly recommended. Students and their parents are reminded that medical insurance may cover the cost of this vaccine. For more information about the meningitis disease and the meningococcal vaccine:

Mental Health Issues: Tips for new students!
The first year of college is commonly an exciting and stressful time. Transitioning from home life to independent living, being financially responsible, adjusting to the academic pressures of college, and dealing with roommates and a new social life all can be a lot to learn.
Expect some stress: All these changes are difficult enough, so don't put pressure on yourself to make this transition perfectly or quickly. This is normal period of transition and you will figure it out with time.
Take care of yourself: Our bodies and minds cope with periods of high stress much more easily if we maintain a low level of daily stress. One way to do this is to take care of your basic health. Getting enough sleep, eating well, and exercising all contribute to this.
Dealing with homesickness: If you find yourself feeling homesick you are not alone. Many students struggle with this issue in the first few months of college. The sooner you develop new social support the easier it will be to feel at home here at William Woods.
Meeting new people can be a challenge, but remember you're not the only one experiencing this. Many students fear that relationships back home will be lost due to physical separation. While they may change, important relationships will survive and may even be strengthened by this important new phase of your life.
Counseling Services can help: If you are struggling with these or other transition issues counseling services can provide support and assistance in developing new problem solving skills. Call 573-592-4222 for an appointment.
